Government Official Says Ministry of Defence Investigating Security Risk from Vehicles from China, with Personnel Told to Refrain from Confidential Discussions in Cars.

A defense official has stated that the Ministry of Defence is actively examining the possible threats posed by Chinese-made vehicles, while staff have been told to refrain from talking about classified information in all cars.

Safety Advice for MoD Staff

In a recent interview on a radio station, Luke Pollard addressed claims that MoD officials have been instructed not to discuss classified information while riding in China-made cars.

He stated that the ministry is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, but emphasised that safety is a concern in every contemporary cars.

We have a collection of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is not to plug Ministry of Defence devices into their vehicle, not to have discussions at a classified level in any car, due to the growing threats of surveillance that are present in every single vehicle, to restrict those confidential talks in protected areas. This is a prudent and reasonable thing for anyone concerned about security.

When it was suggested that it would be prudent for the ministry to stop using all cars from China, the minister replied: That is precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”

Broader Security Background

This revelation follows reports from Norway and Denmark have alerted the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could allow the Chinese government to disable buses and cause disruption to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russia spy ship has been shining laser beams at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “extremely risky” action by defence officials.

This broader defence situation underscores the importance of strong measures and vigilance in all aspects of official activities, from vehicle use to communication habits.
